Therapy Services in Ontario
what we offer
Evidence-Based Therapy Tailored to You
At Gowthorpe Therapists, we provide compassionate, evidence-based therapy services across Ontario. Our care is designed for individuals, couples, children, teens, and families. We take a trauma-informed approach. This means we tailor treatment to each person’s experiences, needs, and goals.
Our therapists use proven therapy methods. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). We do not use the same method for every client. Instead, we choose the method that fits your specific concerns and goals.
Trauma-Informed Therapy for Individuals, Couples and Families
Our team helps with many mental health concerns. We treat trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and relationship or family problems. We also treat bipolar disorder, major life changes, and parenting struggles. We support older adults too. We have experience working with military members, Veterans, and first responders. We also help couples, families, and people who have faced complex or long-term trauma passed down through generations.
You can meet with a therapist in person at our Belleville or Quinte West office. You can also book a virtual appointment from anywhere in Ontario.
Depression
People cope with depression in different ways. We offer trauma-informed therapy in Ontario. We use proven treatments that help reduce symptoms, stabilize mood, and improve daily life.
Couple and Family Conflict
Arguments, separation, and family stress can be hard to handle alone. We offer trauma-informed therapy in Ontario for couples and families. We use methods like CBT for couples, EFT, and the Gottman Method. We also offer mediation, parenting assessments, Voice of the Child Reports, and support for court-involved matters.
Bipolar
Managing bipolar disorder takes teamwork. Our trauma-informed therapy in Ontario works alongside your medical care. This helps you stay on track, stabilize your mood, and function better each day.
Elder Care
Merits of Eldercare Advisors and Care Planning
We offer trauma-informed therapy in Ontario for older adults facing health changes, memory problems, and major life transitions. We also support families and caregivers with guidance on caring for aging parents or planning for safe living at home. Moving from a long hospital stay back home can be hard for any patient. It can be even harder for those who are elderly, frail, or living with more than one chronic condition.
Anxiety
If anxiety is making you avoid things you want to do, we offer trauma-informed therapy in Ontario that helps you build confidence, handle discomfort and live more fully.
Trauma
Gowthorpe Therapists offers trauma-informed therapy in Ontario for people healing from combat trauma, complex trauma, sexual trauma, organizational trauma, and military sexual trauma. We tailor support for children, teens, and adults using EMDR, CBT, CPT, and mindfulness-based practices. We are proud to support soldiers, Veterans, and their families with high-quality trauma-informed care.
Good Parenting and Family Wellness
We support families navigating conflict, separation, reunification, and high-stress parenting situations. Our services are grounded in a child-centred, trauma-informed approach that prioritizes safety, stability, and developmental needs.
We provide Section 30 assessments (Ontario) under the Children’s Law Reform Act, including psychological consultation, family assessments, and parenting capacity assessments. Assessments may be court-ordered or completed by consent, following the assessor appointment and reporting framework set out in s.30.
Fees are structured per adult, with a proposal provided after intake screening. Assessments are tailored to the court order and may include interviews, document and collateral review, structured observations, clinical analysis, and a written report. All services are neutral and child-centred, prioritizing safety, emotional well-being, and developmentally appropriate parenting. Supervised parenting time includes structured documentation, with services offered in person or virtually when clinically appropriate and in accordance with Ontario practice standards.
