Alyssa Baldwin, MSW, RSW | Trauma Therapist in Ontario

Alyssa Baldwin is an experienced trauma therapist in Ontario who provides compassionate, evidence-based therapy for individuals, couples, and families. With 13 years of experience in the mental health field, Alyssa specializes in helping people understand and heal from difficult experiences, persistent emotional patterns, and the effects trauma can have on relationships, identity, and everyday life.

Alyssa has particular experience supporting people affected by complex trauma, military trauma, family trauma, and organizational trauma. She understands that trauma does not always come from one identifiable event. For many people, its effects develop over time and may appear as anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, difficulty trusting others, relationship challenges, avoidance, or feeling disconnected from yourself.

Her approach is warm, practical, and individualized. Therapy is tailored to the needs, experiences, and goals of each person rather than following a one-size-fits-all model.

Trauma Therapy in Ontario

As a trauma therapist in Ontario, Alyssa draws from several evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

These approaches can help clients better understand the connection between experiences, thoughts, emotions, physical responses, and behaviour while developing healthier ways of coping and responding.

Alyssa’s trauma-informed approach places a strong emphasis on emotional safety, trust, collaboration, and helping clients work at a pace that feels manageable.

Areas of Support

In addition to her specialization in trauma, Alyssa provides therapy for people experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, addiction and substance-use concerns, relationship difficulties, and significant life transitions.

She also has experience providing prenatal and postpartum mental health support, recognizing that pregnancy, childbirth, and becoming a parent can bring significant emotional and relationship changes alongside the positive aspects of this stage of life.

Alyssa holds a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University, is a Registered Social Worker, and has additional training in drug and alcohol treatment.

Military and Complex Trauma

Alyssa’s experience with military and complex trauma is an important area of her practice. Trauma can affect far more than memories of what happened. It can influence sleep, mood, relationships, emotional regulation, feelings of safety, and how the nervous system responds to everyday situations.

Alyssa helps clients make sense of these responses without judgement while developing strategies that support greater stability, emotional regulation, connection, and confidence.
