Transform your trauma response into one of self-love and empowerment by understanding and nurturing your inner child. SNT provides the tools to move beyond past pain and embrace a future filled with trust and meaningful connections.
Founded by Dr. Julie Gowthorpe, RSW, Self-Nurturing Therapy (SNT) is a pioneering and structured approach to healing complex trauma. This unique three-step process integrates traditional PTSD treatments, including Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Attachment Therapy, which supports recovery from childhood pain. Unlike treatments targeting single-incident trauma, SNT specifically addresses the deep wounds caused by complex trauma, guiding individuals to identify and nurture their inner child’s needs, fostering a sense of safety and security.
Transitioning from Vulnerability to Confidence
SNT helps individuals move from a state of childhood vulnerability to adult confidence, enabling them to embrace love and connection rather than fear it. Imagine SNT as a nurturing process where those who have experienced pain learn to self-parent with relaxed, patient, warm, reassuring “hugs.” This concept was inspired by a client who described the therapeutic process of releasing pain and feeling relief as akin to receiving a comforting hug from a loved one. Research supports that hugging and embracing with care release oxytocin, a hormone linked to trust, safety, and love. This “self-hug” is the ultimate outcome of the SNT process.
SNT teaches individuals to tolerate intimacy through a comprehensive three-step model. By following this process, people learn to calm the part of themselves that disrupts their ability to enjoy connection with others. The SNT process guides people to self-parent their inner child with adult wisdom, compassion, and love.
